Branching out into new territory: I need to buy bamboo (poles, not engineered planks/lumber) for a new commission, and have come up short at my usual lumber haunts. Any Michigan/Northern Ohio Creekers have a recommendation on where to look? I know it can be had online, but I just hate paying UPS $40 to deliver when 8 sticks of the size I need can be had for only $18

Just a thought but you might try a local synogogue. They build shelters from Bamboo for one of the holidays. I don't know the proper spelling but it is pronounced succas or something similar I beleive.

You could try to find a local chapter of the american bamboo society. Also their website has a list of nurseries and sources that seems very thorough (though it takes a bit of time to figure out the cross referencing, worth the effort though).
