Good Morning Everyone,

It's been a busy weekend for me. This computer desk is getting the best of me, but I don't ever go down without a fight, and I'm going to win this one, no matter what!!!!! Maybe next week I'll post some progress pics and then you can see what I've been up to. I've learned that making "very custom" pieces, with no drawing, no details, just an idea in one's head and executed "blindly" is very painful and time consuming. BUT...at least I'm learning as I go. ;)

I didn't play bass at church Sunday as I told them I needed a weekend off. I took vacation (what my company calls Paid Days Off (PDO)) from work today and tomorrow to hopefully get me a little further along with the project. I worked for "work" last night from 6PM to midnight as our workload continues to climb.

So how was YOUR weekend and what did YOU do?

Best of weeks to you all.

Big WWing weekend for me, I sprayed two coats of Target Coatings WB Shellac on all door panels and drawer fronts for my kitchen cabinet project (very nice product to use). This is over the two coats of alcohol-cut shellac that was already on them. 51 individual panels in all. Took a lot more time that I thought it would. Next step is the "finish" coats (Target Coatings WB Conversion Varnish).

No wood working this weekend. I made another hanging rack for the new 30" Bessy's that are "in the mail." Finished all the plumbing changes for the new Shark Guard also coming - in five weeks. the only other thing I did was gather all the information need to install a Link Sys wireless repeater yet again "in the mail."

Took Friday off and went camping with the family over the weekend to Hartville, OH, home of Hartville Tool. Picked up a Sorby bowl gouge and bowl scraper and some other smaller items. We also went to the big flea market there on Saturday where I found a few useful things including a small brand new squirell cage blower to use to ventilate my shop office for $15 and a nice pair of Starret calipers for $7. Yesterday we packed up, drove home, and spent the evening with my parents. Hopefully I can get the lawn cut tonight and then have time to try out the new tools.

Took Friday off and drove to a little south central Washington town of Goldendale to attend my oldest grandson's HS graduation. He leaves for Great Lakes Naval Training Center on August 2nd. 4th consecutive generation to serve in the Navy! Normally from there you can see Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood. Both mountains were surrounded by clouds so no photos. Got back late Saturday evening. Was going to work in the shop yesterday but neighbor was having a family get together. My shop is located about 30 feet from their patio. Decided not to make a lot of noise and disturb them. Laid low for the day.

Saturday installed a bath vanity and top for my son's new home (yeah it is almost done) applied polyureathane to some doors for a job I'm doing at the local American Legion.

Sunday got things ready to pour concrete for my son's garage ( really it is almost done) and spent the afternoon with my dad on his 81st birthday.

Last weekend and this one, I learned about glazing (the kind where you put glass in things as opposed to the finishing technique). I'm building a set of doors for our built-in hutch, as the small one (17mo) is rapidly approaching the point where he will figure out how to push a chair over to it, climb up and and start throwing glassware on the floor. Last weekend I tried to install the glass and messed it up due to inexperience with the material; this time I managed to do it correctly.

Got primer and one coat of paint on them too, and will get the other coat on sometime this week (white, to match the surrounding trim). Also found time to haul out the sprayer and finish putting the second coat of USL on the kitchen cabinet panels, and a third coat on about a third of them.

A friend arrived on her bike as I was cleaning up, with the bike trailer she's giving us, so I hitched it to my bike, put the kidlet in it and took him on a test ride. He seemed to like it; didn't like the helmet much though, at least until I pointed out that it was just like Daddy's (well, smaller). We live two blocks from one end of a 12-mile bike path, so there's lots of places we can go in reasonable safety.

By the way, if you don't have a brad pusher, a small Quik-Grip with one of the pads removed makes an acceptable substitute.

More home remuttling,
Made some wood trim and molding for my friends boat. They sail off into the sunset today after 12 years of preparation. Some creekers asked for pictures. There are a lot in here for those that want to dig them out.

Some family time and some good walks with shop dog Harley.
Have a safe week.

Ha! Woodworking for a change! :D I found some Douglas fir 4x4s at my local Menards and used them along with a few green treated 2x4s to do this:

This was done to allow me to make a small repair to the keel and to modify the trailer. I managed to get the boat off by myself. We'll see if I can reverse the procedure to get the boat back on the trailer by myself. I think I'm close to ready to start building a pyramid now. At least I know how to lift the heavy stuff. :D

Nothing. Not one thing of any consequence.
A 12 pak of Stella Artois a couple bottles of puligny montrachet some food stuffs to toss on the grill and the nice clean skys over my deck looking out onto my acres of uninterrupted view and of course my missus for company.

We did not one thing.

Well as normal for this time of year other things take me away from WWing. We had ball practise on Staurday morning, B-day party on Saturday afternoon, one heck of a good water gun fight Saturday evening and dinner on the deck.

Sunday I got to do real work, as I had a zone in the sprinkler system stop and had to install new valves, anti-syphon valve and new piping. As normal it took the whole day. Came in to cool down a few times and catch some golf and racing. Then back to work.

Next thing I know the weekend was over. I really do need to find some time to work in the shop or the master bathroom will never be remodeled.

Yowza, they'e goin' out the Welland Canal. A friend of mine pulled out some of the largest timbers I think I've seen, here's a pic of them.

Welland Canal Timbers (http://www.bullockloghomes.com/specialityflooring.htm)

The top pic is the flooring from the log home being built in Lake Tahoe last year. The folks didn't like the flooring at first, until they got it sanded and finished...then somehow fell in love with the green and gold tones...

Those timbers were under water for 75+ years...

As for me, I spent the majority of the weekend getting my cutlist for the workbench closer to being complete. I need to take a pic of my cut/stacked materials. Darn if it's not a lot of work to build a decent workbench. I'll be pounding on this for years...snuck off to a 'que last night at a friends house, nice way to wrap up after cleaning up all the sawdust.

One of the least woodworking productive weekends in a log time. Friday I went to pick up the motor for the Unisaw only to find it was not ready as promised! I don't 'need' it but man do I want it!

Wife and I built an UGLY wire fence beside the house. Of course it is just to hold up the Clematis so in a year or two you will not see the ugly fence. :) But in the 90 degree heat it was took it out of both of us. We planted the Clematis Sunday late and finished up in the dark.

I did work on the sketch of the arbor and gate that goes in the fence. Design time counts as woodworking right?

Sunday afternoon my In-laws came over to go swimming. My FIL also wanted to do something in the shop. He has be great about bringing some of his tools over as donations (bribes) to use in the shop. He is building a stand for a small ... (miniature?) cannon. It's a 32" long cast barrel that uses black powder. I didn't help, mostly just watched him work and told/fetched tools from my hiding places. :D So that REALLY doesn't count as woodworking but it was interesting to see what he had in mind.

40689Awesome looking sketch Jeff. Love the torii look which Greene & Greene depicted on much of their stuff. You've incorporated that in a unique way and the design looks excellent!

This stuff makes me drool...I love arts & crafts... ;)

LOML and I spent the weekend (and most of last week) in Birmingham, visiting my parents, two of my uncles, a few cousins and many, many friends. We made the drive home today, 10 hours on the road:eek: and are getting back into the swing of things here at home. Of course, I didn't do any woodworking but I spent a lot of time thinking about it--that has to count for something.:p

Came home to find that the deer had made a snack out of the blossoms on the best lilly in my garden, despite the fact I had sprayed it. Man, those deer are really plucking my nerves, but I sure am happy to be home!:)

Spent Friday night fabricating two large picture frames for (1) an in the near future Birthday gift for my wife's mother and (2) a future Christmas gift for my own Mother. Spent much of Saturday morning building another Hosta bed around a huge magnolia poplar tree in our yard. Did some minor things around the house before heading off for the Saturday night dirt track racing. Sunday it was some minor last minute prep work on the frames, some more research work on a stock car drivers win history for a project that I'm co-doing with another racing fan/freak. By that time, the boys were over for the weekly NASCAR race watching/beer drinking/pool shooting handful of hours. Sunday night it was the seasons first installment of Deadwood on HBO.

And Cliff, sometimes that is the most satisfying of all! I do not blame you one bit. I usually hate to waste time doing nothing, but then there is the very odd time when I will decide it's "nothing" time.

Jeff,
Admirable gate design and a fine development following your windows and garage door works!

Well, I didn't get a lot of woodworking done this weekend, in part because I'd promised DH that I'd get my yarn listed, so I did mostly that. Late Saturday night I did sharpen two plane blades, though I nicked one and had to regrind it (grr). Did some planing of wood, but not tons. Took some shop pics. Woodworking had been put on hold for sometime now. April and May are my two busiest months. Sunday I actually got sometime to clean the garage and dust off some woodworking equipment. Hopefully, next weekend I can finish some planter boxes.

Wow, weekend be darned, I had quite the day today!!

First, I have been working with a guy online. The man is a carver and needed a "monster amount" of Basswood. I have quite a bit growing in our woodlot so after a week of rain, I was finally able to go out and fell this giant Basswood for him.

I still had the bulldozer sitting here from another job my father is doing, so I figured with 8 inches of rain the past few weeks, a bulldozer was the right machine for the job.

Basswood Harvest Pics (http://www.railroadmachinist.com/Wood_Basswood.html)

After getting out those Basswood logs. I stopped into an antique dealer to take some pictures of an 18 inch turn of the century jointer I was going to put on the Old Woodworking Machinery website. After giving me a 100 dollar price, I ended up buying this behemouth and dragging it home.

I still managed to get some lawn mowing and stuff done as well, but overall it was a great day as far as woodworking is concerned. Now I just need to find a way to get this 100 year old 18 inch jointer going.

Well...let's see...watched the girls enjoying their new play gy (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=37884)m, got some more paint on the back blade for the tractor (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=37469), cut up the remaining maple tree that came down for our driveway project and chipped up the spoils, bought $50 of diesel fuel (17 gallons...), watched the girls enjoying their new play gym, mowed the lawn, watched the girls enjoying their new play gym, trimmed the top off our pear tree and chipped up the spoils, watched the girls enjoying their new play gym, took the girls to their swimming lessons, watched the girls enjoying their new play gym, knocked down some Tylenol for my aching body, watched the girls enjoying their new play gym...ate steak on Saturday and pork chops on Sunday. Thought about woodworking...someday. Watched the girls enjoying their new play gym. :D
