What model?
Somewhere between $200 and $1200 new....
$300 might be a bargin, or a rip-off

i just watched the harbor Freight turning set that sells for 35.00 go for 77.00. People are clueless. Not to mention that it says "great for bowlturners!"

My 044 is $500-600 new. The used ones in decent shape appear to run between $250-$400 on Ebay. I bought mine used from a local dealer as a refurbished saw for $275. They serviced it and would stand behind any issues with it. I bought the saw before there was a such thing as Ebay.

The saw has done what I've asked of it.

Ian is right on. There have many models with different cc and capacity and of course, diff prices...They are IMHO, an EXCELLENT brand of chain saw!!

Sorry guys!!:o :o

It was late when I wrote the original message. I intended to put the model number in the title; but obviously failed. (Do you think that is why I loose so much money.....play money.....when playing PartyPoker, online, at three in the morning??)

It is now corrected.

The model number is "026."

Thanks

My .029 Farm Boss was about $350-375 new, if I recall clearly.

The 026 is a good model, it's a smallish professional grade saw, designed for tree trimmers and smaller forestry work. Stilh have the Woodboss / Farmboss saws for part timers, cutting firewood etc, and the Pro saws that are usually lighter, more powerfull and durable, and cost more. It's been replaced by the MS 260 now, but in good condition it's probably worth that.
Maybe $500 to buy new, but I dont know your local prices?

Cheers

I can tell you for sure that the MS-361 Pro saw sells for $519 new at your local Stihl dealer. The MS-290 (Farmboss) sells for $369 new in the store. At least that's the prices here in Conway, Arkysaw......:D

Randy, The LOML got me the MS 360 pro for christmas a few years ago and like Dennis said it was $519 plus I got upgraded to a 20" bar and chain, a case, a hat, spare chain, gallon of chain lube, 6-pack of 50:1, spare plug, and a file. It ran about $650 for everything.

I can't speak to the price, but my Stihl 026 Woodboss is about 25 yrs old, has at times been worked pretty hard, and is "stihl" going strong.

I paid around $325.00 for an 026 new about 7 yrs ago. It's a good saw and relatively light compared to a farm boss. A lot of climbers around here use them. Mine has been through 4 hurricanes and 2 wives. Each one wanted something different cut down. I don't know what an 026 costs now but for what may be a few dollars more the new one could be the bargain.

Thanks for all of the input. I just have a house in town with a few trees that need an occasional trim so I don't require a monster chain saw. I have a little McCullock 16"(2 ci) that has served me very well so far. Unfortunately, it is not running right now and I had to borrow the neighbors saw. He had a Stihl 026 and and the difference is unbelieveable!! If the Mc turns out to be dead, I'm trying to decide whether a Stihl would be justified economically or if another inexpensive brand would be the way to go. I don't think I can justify the cost of a new Stihl for my limited needs; but a good used one might be the way to go??

Part of what you need to decide is how much your time is worth. You noted that there's an "unbelieveable" difference between your little Mc and the 026.

Is it worth a few hundred $ to you to have that difference every time you go to use the saw?
