or Microsoft will tell you where to find sympathy in the dictionary.:)

A freind sent me an Email this morning stating that M/S will be dropping support of :

Windows 98

Windows ME

Windows XP service pack ONE

Check out the announcement at M/S site (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/support/endofsupport.mspx).

The W98 and ME products have pretty much been "out of the loop" for some time for anything above very minimal "support"--it was supposed to go away a long time ago, but they relented in a very mild way about a year ago--and they've been hinting at dropping support for XP SP1 for sometime. Anyone running XP should have gone to SP2 a long time ago for security/privacy reasons. Some corporations delayed that (including my own employer), but that's also not unusual. With MS releasing Windows Vista, hopefully in Jan 2007, only supporting XP SP2 makes sense.

Jim, I was surprised to find that there was any support for the Win 98 'stuff'. Anyone running ME most likely also beats themselves with hammers.

Yea, too many people screamed when they tried to kill it the last time...but "it's time"...Win98 has more holes in it than Swiss Cheese in a mouse house! And I can't post what "ME" means here due to the TOS... ;)

Hmmm, been using Microsoft products since the late '70s, the one time I needed help I found it useless. $30 to sit on the phone for hours while someone that doesn't speak much English asks someone else what to tell me because my answers are not on the script. Finally they suggest that I
reformat and reinstall the system. I'd already thought of that, and was trying to avoid it.
