After a string of destroyed bowls I finally got another one off the lathe in one piece. This is the Spalted Hickory I got from Mr. Hoyt as part of the dirty turning exchange. The bark fell off in transit so it is a quasi-natural edge (QNE) bowl.

It measures 8 1/2" in diameter and 3 1/2" - 5" tall, depending on where you measure.

I found a posting here that described chucking a NE bowl. (Now I can't find it :( ) I went to the hardware store and was surprised that most of the plumbing fittings were $4 - $8. I ended up with a 3" coupler for $1.49. I'm still looking for a used mouse pad but in the meantime I folded a newspaper into quarters and used it as padding. Worked really well!

Thanks for looking.

Great job. I love the grain you found in that piece of wood. Was it dry when you got it? Keep 'em coming.

David, that looks pretty darn good. Very nice in fact. Don't fret over the bark falling off. It looks great as it is.....:D

Worked really well!Ask them where they keep their shelf paper. The 'Contact' brand people make a black rubber non-skid drawer liner material that works great for that. The other thing I've used is the sort of "honeycomb" texture stuff made to go under area rugs.

Nice bowl!

Beautiful job David. I use the PVC with leather glued on them. Works really well for that. Great work on that piece of wood.

Nice bowl David. Glad you could keep it together.

Side note: Walmart and I'm sure a couple other big stores have a rubber like drawer lining that is similar to those router/sanding pads except they are cheap. They work great for the cushion and holding inside the bowls.
