I wanted to make a different kind of box so I decided to make a pirate chest. I looked all over the net and at many other pictures; I always use my own plans anyway. The chest is 3/4 red oak with a cherry stain and a varnish finish. The hardware is wrought iron. It measures 22" wide and 14" high. I mead the top first because I couldn't be sure of the final dimensions. The top started at 3/4" and was rounded with a plane and then a belt sander. I used 3/8" oak dowels to hold everything together.

Nice work... The curved top is great.... Curiosity question, did you make the top first that make the bottom to fit??
