I have made a 'pirate chest' bread box for a freind's wife. Stained pine with 3 coats of shellac. Any point in applying paste wax or am I just going overboard?

Wax over shellac is a traditional finish it's called polish.
I use it often on interiors of case pieces.
I dont think it's at all overboard for your application.

I went for the polish. Its a small piece and the finish is a good look for the 'been around the block' look I'm after, thanks!
