Here's a photo of the Jatoba chest finished.
I used 4 coats of Sealacell clear. This finish is almost foolproof. I tried
this product after seeing David Marks use it on just about everything.

Very, very nice Greg. I second Lars' request for more details. I really like the lines of the legs, and the wood combination is great.

Love the asian look it has with the arched legs. Nice curly maple also (it is maple, isn't it?).

Holy cow Greg! That's one incredible chest! I would go on, but honestly I can't think of anything else to say about this piece.

Oh, and I agree with Lars. You can't drop a bomb like that without the details.

That is perhaps the most confident and lovely piece I've seen in awhile. Details would be great.

Very impressive! The design is well-balanced, great contrast in color, and fantastic use of grain/figure.

I do believe Tyler should consider adding a new division to his Enforcement Department...Construction Details Police. No picture, didn't happen. No construction details, he/she didn't build it. :D

Great piece, Greg...inspirational!

Hi all,
I want to thank everyone for their much appreciated compliments on my Jatoba blanket chest. I have been an amateur woodworker for about 20 years now. In the past I made mainly small things like jewelry boxes, hand mirrors and a couple rocking chairs. Now I am starting to make some larger furniture. The next project will be an elliptical hall table. The Jatoba blanket chest was inspired by a series of jewelry boxes that I made a few years ago. They all have an oriental feel. The chest is made with shop sawn veneers for the top and all of the curly maple panels. These all have Baltic birch cores and are laminated in a vacuum press. The rest is all mortise and tenon and frame and panel construction. The finish is 4 coats of sealacell clear.

Greg.

That's a very nice piece of work that you have done there. The lines are clean, and the overall shape is very pleasing.

Sometimes when angles like those are integrated into a piece. It detracts from the overall presence. It can be too much. Your blanket chest does not fall into this category, the angles are part of the piece, and the flow, top to bottom is done nicely.

Now for some more details. How did you cut the M&T joints?, homemade jigs? MFT?. Is it loose tenon joinery or integrated?

I admired the chest after seeing the pics in your first post before the finish was applied. Now I'm really impressed. Excellent work.
