Had a piece of scrap cherry with a crotch in it. Decided to make a plate. The crotch had a gap, so I needed to fill it with something. Used a combination of epoxy and turquoise Inlace beads. Had to glue a scrap to the bottom of the blank first. Rough turned the top of the plate before filling the crack and cleaned out any bark inclusions. After the epoxy cured, I turned the rim of the bottom by glueing a block to the face of the plate. Then flipped it, turned the inside, flipped it again to finish the bottom. Here are top and bottom views.

Very nice and beautiful outcome! Is it as big as it looks or is it simply perfectly proportioned?

Great save John, looks very nice. How hard is the inlace to turn and sand?

The plate is only 6" across. The Inlace in epoxy turns well, but you have to be careful not to overheat the Inlace. Since it is polystyrene, it will melt.

Beautiful recovery! Where do you purchase inlace? I am unfamiliar with it.

John, that's absolutely lovely. I like what you've done with the void, and the figure on that piece is beautiful.

I got mine at the Woodcraft store in Orlando while in Florida on vacation, but not all Woodcraft stores carry it any more. If found a web site (http://www.turtlefeathers.com/text/inlace/inlace-main.html) where they sell it. I like using the granular material with an epoxy better than the liquid that Inlace sells - personal preference.

Knock em Out John! That looks great I like the inlace great contrast and good method for saving an awsome slab of cherry.
