Good day

I have a few 4.8V drills that the batteries went “caput”, and to buy new ones it would cost like new drill.

But a junk collector like me will not through them away, so I made an experiment some 8 years ago and its still working.

I took sealed lead-acid battery, like those for motorcycles and toys, 12V-5AH, and connected it to the drill.

A word of warning: if you don’t have “electrical” background, DON’T do it or ask a friend (car electrician) to do it for you. Those batteries are potential BOMB.

Because I removed the Ni-Cad batt.’s the drill is much lighter and for long period work at my age….
It also serves me as a “backup” batt. When I go to one of those “family calls”.

Its written on the picture, but I will say it again; If the normal operating voltage of the drill is below 12V (9.6V or less) and the drill has variable speed control, DO NOT make this setup, it will damage (burn) the speed control feature; How do I know?, experience!
