The turning demo scheduled this weekend with Jimmy Clewes at my turning club got cancelled. Something about his tools not showing up in Las Vegas. So with time on my hands Sunday afternoon, I decided to turn something. Looked in my woodpile (firewood that is) and pulled out this piece of ash. And here is what I found inside. Nothing special, just a fun project. Used a spindle rough gouge to get it round, 3/4" spindle for the outside finish, and scrapers on the inside. Overall dimension are 8-1/2" tall by 3-1/2" diameter. Bottom is hollowed out to 4-1/2" deep. Lines were put on with a wire (horizontal) and wood burner (vertical). As I was turning this, thought the form would work well for lighthouses too. Criticism welcome.

Definitely unique! Definitely creative! How did you hollow so deeply? Heavy scraper? Nice work!

I used a combination of three Sorby scrapers - one of the replaceable tip scrapers for most of the work, a 1/2" round scraper for the bottom corner, and a large scraper for the sides. Could not sand to the bottom, so it is still a little rough.
