A friend from work asked me if I would like some Cherry from a tree that blew down at the back of his property. I asked how much he wanted to part with and he said I could have all if I wanted it. I could have it if I made him a couple of pens. I shared 4 truckloads with my turning club. Tim got his pens plus mushrooms, kitchen utensils and this bowl. Bowl is 13 dia and 6 tall. 1 coat of sunshine, 4 coats of watcos and buffed.

Terry........the simple lines of bowl coupled with the wood.....beautiful!

Question? What is sunshine.....are you putting the bowl out in the sun to darken it?

Ken

Yes, I set Cherry in the sun. One side up in the morning and the other side up in the afternoon. I hate adding artifical color other than watco natural. I manage to avoid it most of the time.

Great, awesome bowl! Was wondering what your procedure was for drying. Did you use the dna method, how long, etc? Thanks for posting the pics and any input.

Terry,
It is great to see a beautiful bowl that can actually be used! My buddy thinks every bowl should be thin (1/8-1/16" thick) but I would rather make something more useful and a little thicker.
