Finally got my Delta 36-680 together and in the shop (spot in my garage). The saw went together pretty well, and adjusted nicely. I put a Link Belt on it and have a PALS kit to install. The motor pully in the link belt/performance kit was a bit tight, but a very light sanding and some penetrating oil fixed it right up. Over all the saw runs quiet and is straight and square. I cleaned it up with alcohol and then applied a coat of Johnson's wax. I'll put another coat on later on.

The T2 Fence is a breeze to move, locks straight and true (my old Rockwell has a shorter one and locks on first the front...then the back. It was pretty good for 35 years old.) I also like being able to go out 30" and having the right CI extension. I am going out soon and install the guard and splitter.

The Incra Miter Express is a great addition, and I will be cutting the "fixed" board from a spare I ordered. (this one is from my old saw and so the dimensions are different).

I broke down and got the Tenryu Gold Medal 40T combo blade. It doesn't require a dampener and has gotten great reviews. We'll see how it performs when I start cutting.

I'm really excited about this new setup, though, I'll miss using my Dad's old Rockwell. However, it will see good use as a dedicated saw in some fashion. Thanks to all for the information I was able to get here. I'm sure I'm going to have more questions in the near future. This saw should help a lot with all the projects I have on going, and others in the planning stage.

I have the same saw with the exception tha I have the stamped steel extension wings. I put a link belt on as well and it mad a huge difference over the OE belt. Congrats, great set up!

Slick setup Greg.....a saw is a cutting system and it looks like a whole lotta good choices were made! Enjoy!

Get those Pals on there - you will not regret it. Set it once and you are done. Nice setup!

Thanks, guys.

I installed a Performance Kit, consisting of 2 machined pullies and a Link Belt. The pullies that come standard on the saw are nothing to write home about.....ROF ROF ROF

Couldn't believe the trunion pully was a split type...:omg:

The standard belt is a black V-belt.

This is the Performance Kit...nice machined pullies and the unusual link belt....they really perform well and are very smooth and quiet.

This is a worthwile upgrade to any table saw, IMO.

I am going to get the longer bolts that are the match for the original trunion bolts, and then install the PALS brackets, I think. That option is outlined in the instruction sheet that came with the kit. For now, it seems to be cutting nicely: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=37595

I moved to the link belt and saw great improvement in my older Craftsman TS. I added the PALS and also consider them to be a worthwhile upgrade to any contractor style TS. I have the machined pulleys and will install them as I swap out the 1970's Craftsman for my 1950's Craftsman (heavier trunnion and overall a more massive saw-body). The PALS and linkbelt will come along for the ride. With my current skill level I think I can milk a couple more years out of the contractor saw. Glad the setup has worked well for you.
