I have been applying BLO to a project and decided to see just how hot it go when curing, so I too my disposible shop rags wiped it down and then balled the rags up and put them in my covered fire pit. Next day I come out rags are super stiff but no ash. So I open them up, they are BLACK inside. Just a little more and I think I would have had ignition. Just a fun little project. LOL. Just found it interesting.

You could try placing a blo soaked rag in a cardboard box out in the sun, covered, that might cause some ignition. Should ignite given the proper condition, AFAIK. I tried this at a friend's house and we were able to get it to catch fire.

Another interesting thing to do is put a pile of shavings in a pile out in a driveway and throw a match in it. It's quite an eye opener to see how high the flames get.
