Curly Maple that is. Joe Tonich sent me this Maple blank a few months ago. I knew it was loaded with curl, and found out just how much this weekend. 13" diameter, buffed Watco finish. I thought about playing with some dye, but chickened out. Thanks Joe!:D

It's simply BEAUTIFUL!!!!! :D

If you want to try some dye on curly maple? Use a chocolate color dye and it almost looks like tiger stripe. I did a knife case like that and the knife and case are now in the hands of a collector in the Netherlands.

Outstanding work Travis... the curl is centered perfect on the bowl and the shape is very nice. I bet that's hard to do.

Good job

Very pretty Travis! Nice job on the Foot and and the rest of the detailing. With all that curl, did you have trouble with fuzzies at all? If so, how'd you handle it?

John, the blank was dry, so I didn't have any problem with fuzzies. It did want to chip out in spots, especially around the detail areas. A fresh edge on the bowl gouge and shear scraping with it took care of those.;)
