My rough outs are getting dry! Finished this little one tonight, WITHOUT breaking it on the "jamb" or friction chuck - did that twice last night..... About 3 1/2 wide, 2 1/2 tall, finished with lacquer, weighs in a 2 ounces. Not sure of the wood type as I bought quite a few at once. Its either live oak, sassafras, elm or ??? Anyone have any idea's? It did have a very pleasant odor when cutting.
Now I can really start having FUN!!!!!!

Barry, sassafras has a very distinctive pleasant odor. I haven't turned enough of it to be able to look at your bowl and identify it by grain. The pore structure looks a lot like oak but oak does not usually have a pleasant odor. Maybe someone else can identify it for you.
Regardless, it is a nice little bowl. Glad to see you are getting them dried out and turning finished products.:D

Looks a lot like sassafras, but could be catalpa as well or one of many other species like hackberry, etc.. Too hard to tell from pictures.
