I'm wondering something. I'm about to cut the stretchers for my Lee Valley CI legs. The instructions call for a max of 45" which will yield a 48" base. Since I have a 72" top, that gives me a 12" overhang on each end. Do'es this seem stable? I can cut longer stretchers but will need to splice in longer all thread rod. To make it longer is no problem but why do it if it's not going to provide any greater stability. The decision is if I keep it at 48" the Tucker will go outside the legs, otherwise inside if stretched. Any comments from the peanut gallery?

A 12" overhang is fine. You'll love it for clamping stuff to the top. The only consideration is when and if you have to seriously beat on something. Then, you ("beator") will have to remember to position the "beatee" over the stretcher, otherwise you'll get bounce.
