Been thinking about doing a suspended bowl (on legs) for some time. Decided to try last night. Here is the result.

It is about five inches across and 1.5 inches high made from ambrosia maple. The bottom of the bowl sits about 1/2" off the table. I turned the bottom first leaving a tenon to hold by but with the center hollowed out. Then I turned the top/inside. Using a jam chuck and block of wood on the bottom, I turned off the tenon. Then used a Foredom power carver to remove the wood to create the legs and recesses. After a coat of linseed oil, I put copper leaf in the recesses and patinated with sulfurated potash. Then put on several coats of spray lacquer.

Great job John, one of these days I would like to try a shape like that. I love turning ambrosia maple because of what you can bring out of the wood.

Great job.

John, I like the unique shape of this bowl. The picture of the underside helps to see how it was done... might have to copy that shape one day.

Good job,
Doug
