My draw for the dirty bowl exchange was from Don Orr the specie Catalpa (dry). Finished size is 6" in diameter x 3" in height with a depth of 1 3/4". Sanded to 1200 grit and given a coat of Watco oil, more coats to follow.

I wanted to try and follow the contour of the outside of the bowl and do the same on the inside. That was a bit more difficult for me than the couple of straight sided bowls I've made to this point, but you always need a new challenge.

I like that shape a lot. I like bowl with what we call on boat transoms. "tumble home". That is curves back toward the center. It's one of my favorites shapes.

So in the words Old Mr. Grace. "You've all done very well!" :)

Well done, Steve! Beautiful looking wood and nice form/finish to it. :) However, don't you just "love" the "fragrance" of that Catalpa???  :D

Thanks guys for the kind compliments. Pete the reason I bought the lathe was for my son, he's been to busy to use it much ...maybe if I'd get off the lathe when he is home might help though......NOT!:D

EDIT* John, it does have a fragrance like nothing I've expierienced. I can still smell it on my hat.:)

Love the bowl. Great looking wood and nice grain pattern. The one time I turned catalpa, it was a joy to turn and easy to finish.
