I finally got this piece of willow done after over 8 hours of hand sanding on it the other day. WOW was it fuzzy and most was on the inside.

When I started I intended to put a collar on this piece but, not much room left now for one. The more I sanded the more curl came out in it. There was a big depression in this piece and I wasn't sure if it would make it.

It is 4-3/8 High by 6-1/2" wide and a pretty consistent 1/8" walls, is finished with Watco, 3 coats of wipe on poly and buffed with the beall buff wax wheel.

Thanks for looking :)

Holy PacMan on steroids, Batman!!!

Dick that is a very unique HF with the opening. The curl/figure is just fantastic! Looks like it was a challenging piece all the way around and appears to me you did a great job on it!

Thanks everyone, I have never hand sanded that much in my life. But it turned out it was worth it. Even though I can't hold onto a turning tool today and most likely not tomorrow either.:(

Thanks again

Dick, this is absolutely beautiful. I could not imagine what the rough blank looked like but it was worth the effort.

Good job,
Doug

WOW to the grain! WOW to the form! WOW to the finish! Think I like it? From the pictures, looks like you cut the slit in the form instead of it being there before turning. Whatever, it adds a lot to the visual effect. WOW!

Dick,
Boy, that is the most beautiful willow creation I've ever seen. I really believe you when you say "8 hours of sanding".

OMG, Dick!!! I think you just went and set the bar so, so very high, it will be hard to top!!! :D I've seen a lot of your work but, I must say, with this piece, you have reached a pinnacle of beauty, form and just plain old eye appeal! :) Wow, you outdid yourself on this one, my friend. Stunning!!! :)

Dick I truly feel the presence of greatness, you have set the bar so high I seriously doubt I'll reach it. Way to Go:eek:

Thanks again everyone for the very nice comments. I did spend some extra time on this one once I saw the possibilities.

John all I did was sand the sharp edges that appeared from the hollowing out of the inside. There was a large depression that went most of the way around the blank.;)

That's a beauty! I can't even begin to imagine how you kept it together while turning it.

I'm in awe. Stunning stuff, Dick. That one really does set the bar high. I'd be wearing body armor before even thinking about holding a sharp tool next to that piece while it spins. ;) :p

Bravo!

Dick, you did a great job on an awesome piece of wood. I can only imagine how delicate the turning had to be.
