I have been looking a long time for a metal rule, 12 inches long and about 1 inch wide. What I need is one with 1/16 inch incraments on the end (1 inch) of the rule. (Does this make sence?) I need to be able to set it on edge (lengtn on a surface) and measure up at the end in 1/16 inch incraments to 1 inch.

Has anyone seen one of these around?

Thanks!!!!!

john, if starrett doesn`t make it you probably don`t need it....they`ve most likely got the most comprehensive line-up of measuring devices known...02 tod

I would also check out woodpecker rules. I have a few and they are great.

What about the Incra slotted rules? They are made specifically for marking distance from an edge.

Starrett makes a 6" and a 12" that are exactly what you are looking for. I have the 6" model, but it's only 3/4" wide. My 12" is a standard machinist rule.
I have the Incra 6" and 12" rulers, and they also will perform the function that you are specifying. These are probably among the most used items in my shop. Great for layout work.

I have a bunch of rules hanging around. Some have hooks which grab the edge of the board. As a machinist in my other life, I have all different lengths and widths. Most of mine are Starrett. But the one I reach for the most is black with white etching. That is, by far, the easiest to read.

I'd vote for the Incra rules too, except that I'd go with the small 3" version. As far as I know Hartville Tool is the only place that has the 3" size.

I've seen pictures in books of the ones with the scale on the END of the rule, like you describe, but I have never see one in a store or mail order catalog.

I have one made by Westcott. Has a cork backing to make it easier to pick up off a desk. Believe it came from an office supply outfit. Good luck

Have you checked out these rules by Lie Neilsen? They might have what you are looking for.

Nothing at Lie-Nielsen. Incra does haf the markings on their "T" rules but they are pretty short . . . only to 6 inches. One of the people from Starret is checking for me. He thinks they have one that is not shown in their catalogue.
