Poplar, both about 7" along the side ("diameter" doesn't mean much here:p ) and 3/4" tall:

Unintentional automotive motif: one looks vaguely like a rotor out of a Mazda engine, the other like a knock-off hub from a '50s sports car.

Dang it, Lee... I really need to get me one 'o dem lasers!!! :D But, I always thought they leave some type of a burn mark. Musta' done a LOT of sanding, huh? Really nice work, my friend and, as stated, certainly thinking "outside the box"! Good job! :)

Lee,
I really like them both - the rotor is my favorite - reminds me of work done in the '50's thru early '60's.

Nice "propellers", Lee! I'd still be worried about keeping my fingers... :)

LOVE the first one! I think the form is just about perfect.
I think I'd like the second one better if the wings weren't wavy, but other than that it's awesome.

Dang it, Lee... I really need to get me one 'o dem lasers!!! :D But, I always thought they leave some type of a burn mark. Musta' done a LOT of sanding, huh? Sanding yes, laser no. The amount of hand-sanding required is the only thing I don't like about this kind of form...might as well be doing flat-work. (grumble, grumble)
Well, actually the laser was involved, cutting the MDF templates I used to pattern-rout the blanks to shape: if the blank isn't just about perfect, the edges won't come out right.
Thanks for the kind words, everybody.

I think I'd like the second one better if the wings weren't wavy..."Well, it didn't sound anything like that in rehearsal, but hey, that's jazz."
- Larry Coryell, Montreaux Jazz Festival, 1970
Didn't plan it that way, that's just how it worked out.
I've got a thicker blank in that shape ready to turn...as soon as I stop twitching from doing this one:
it got so thin, I thought it was going to break when I buffed it.

Actually I was thinking more of the Danish Moderne work done during that era.:o
