Strange how ideas come along. Dick posted a really nice HF very similar to this yesterday and I was working on this at the time. Even more spooky is the fact that the vahse is made from a piece of spalted poplar that Dick gave me! Too freekish. You'll notice the light "ring" around the collar where the BLO didn't take. The piece is about 9" tall and walls are about 3/8" thick. Suggestions welcome.

Looking good Chris!
Beautiful shape and some awesome spalted wood!
Would that light ring be glue?
I have done that before, I now put one coat of finish on my pieces before I glue on my collars with CA

Hi Jim,

Yes, that would be a glue line. Oh well, I learned from my first collared piece that I should tennon the collar and put it on last...

Gorgeous vahse, Chris! I love the shape, the wood and the collar. :) Super job on the finish, as well. As for "suggestions", only one: Carefully pack it in bubble wrap, then brown paper, put it in an appropriately sized box and send it on over!!! You can find me in the "white pages"!!! :D :D :D

Wonderful HF ! I can't wait to dig my heels into one. I also noticed the spalted workbench top in the pic and the bowl used to storage in the background. So that's where all the "dunno what to do with this" turnings go. :D
