Phew! After a years delay because of back problems I finally have completed my first furniture project a cherry curio cabinet for my granddaughter.

Cabinet is made out cherry with shellac and waterlox finish. This project was a lot of first for me: router, sitle and rail, dowels, biscuts just to name a few.

I aquired the pattern from woodprojects.com and used as a guide. Cabinet is about 12 wider than pattern and 4" deeper, doors did not have archs, shelves were fixed and I made them adjustable.

No Glass installed because I have to transport this 350 miles and local glass installers I've talked too recommend I have the glass installed at granddaughters location to reduce breakage during transportion. (I am having glass installed because of the arches and I have never been very good at cutting glass)

Very nice work Dave! Your granddaughter will enjoy this heirloom for a long time. I see you're in Oregon, our old stomping grounds.

Keep up the good work!

That's a substantial first piece. Nice job. Good call on the glass. It would really ruin the day to have broken glass at the destination.

That cabinet would be great if it was your 100th let alone your first major project! Excellent work! Be sure to put your name and date it! It'll be a family heirloom!

Excellent work Dave,
And doubly so as this is your first furniture piece!

Nice job on sizing the patterns to your own needs, too.

Also, I sympathize with you re: back problems, as I had a similar constraint once.

Fantastic job Dave, She's gonna LOVE IT!

That finish looks sweet, just reflective enough but not to shiny. Did you make the crown molding yourself?

Wonderful!

Brian :)

What a beautiful present; one that will be treasured now and for years and years.

Great job! I can't imagine that it was your first! You really started off with a bang. Isn't cherry a great wood? WOW!!!

Have you considered having the glass beveled? Although expensive, it adds a nice touch.

Thank for all the great comments.

Brian

No! I bought the crown molding. But it is the only thing I didn't make.

beveled glass would like nice but I already have sunk alot into. I have to transport it myself I will need to rent a minivan or SUV and I only have a sedan.

Just repeating what many others have said. This is a great "first" furniture project. The finish and wood matching are excellent and everything looks very tight. I like the changes you made in the design. Very well done Dave....now go and streatch out that back and get back in the shop.

First, fifth or fiftieth.......you have done a wonderful job Dave. You should be real proud of yourself not only for your accomplishments, but the fact that you persevered even with time delay due to your back problems, and completed it! Way to go!
