That lamp reminds me quite a bit of a small style of lamp my father used to make. I remember that he made a bunch of them, giving them away as gifts to family, and selling a few at Pipestem State Park Resort in Athens, WV.

I can't remember what the base wood is, although I believe he used Padauk blanks most of the time. The lamp base is one piece, bored through the center and out the side for the wiring and lamp hardware. It takes a small base candelabra lamp, and originally used those "candleflame" bulbs---hard to come by, it seems. The top of the lamp is an old glass power line insulator.

This is one of those little projects that I think would be fun and easy to make once I finally get the money for a lathe, and if I can manage to find some insulators.

Never too early for start Christmas gifts. One of the best things about turning is that you can create a lot of gifts very quickly.;) :D

Very nice work Don.
The color contrasts and the repetition of horizontal lines are each very effective.
