Forgive me for being a newbie, folks, but what exactly is meant by a "bombing run"?

Forgive me for being a newbie, folks, but what exactly is meant by a "bombing run"?

What this means is some fun and goodhearted gift giving.

I think it all started with dropping a Jet Mini lathe on Ken, to kick start his turning, then others, including myself, have done bombing runs of wood, I sent over a bunch of pen blanks.

All in good fun, no one gets hurt, and someone gets something nice from a fellow Creeker(s).

Cheers!

Tyler.......I'm hoping that thong I got was Clean!  :D

Henry......I was the first "target" of the "bombing run". It all started with my teasing the turners here last fall during an "Itty Bitty" turning contest. In late January they announced they were going to "bomb" me. A week or so before the Super Bowl, FEDEX ground delivered Jet VS Mini, a SuperNova 2 chuck. Later turning videos, a set of HF turning tools, some Robert Larson turning tools and a check arrived. In short, in a matter of a couple of weeks I'd lost all my excuses for not being a turner. So....now I'm a turner of sorts..........I still haven't gotten back to finishing my new shop and I'm really not that far away. But..........there's 6" of shavings under the Bomb attached to the "Diving Board"! Hopefully, today.....I'll add to the mess!

Crazy bunch .....these turners here at SMC.......Generous bunch!........I hope I can justify their investment .........

Henry,

Stu has already answered, and yes.....he even got the answer right. :p :p :D

It's a good chance for folks to join together and send a gift, either hand made or store bought to someone that is needing or wanting some "thing" that is woodworking related. There have been several "bombings" in the last several months all happening to fellow Creekers. Even if folks dont' know WHAT's going on? They'll use that opportunity to jump in and have fun carrying on, poking, running, ducking, and just overall pretending to make the tension ever higher and the "happening" ever more "mysterious". Then once the gift is delivered? The person that got the surprise gift posts and everyone that wants to jumps in and pats them on the back via the creek.

You meet the nicest people on the Creek. :)

I think it all started with dropping a Jet Mini lathe on Ken...Kinda like the old Firesign Theater bit called "You Catch It, You Keep It!!", a game show where the prizes are dropped off a three-story building to a crowd of waiting "contestants"...prizes like a washer and dryer or a briefcase with, not one, not two, but three gold bars.

I like this sort of thing. So as a matter of encouragement, I will admit to a couple of runs. I noticed a marine who wanted to turn pens......so I launched a premptive strike and sent some blank bombs his way. I also dropped a bird bomb on Steve Ash a few weeks ago. Next time I'll have to tell him to look up at the appropriate time.:D Keep up the moral troops..........

As you know, I mainly lurk here since I haven't anything to show. Still no lathe but I can feel myself slipping more knowing that Tyler is aturner. ;)

I enjoy finding out who got bombed even if I don't get to help with the bombing. I wonder who is crouched under their bench waiting to see if the bomb is dropping on them?

So...lemme get this straight....Ya'll put "something" on a plane that doesn't know where it's going, but the "something" will know where it's going once it gets there?

Is this a scud?

Dunno who all was in on this, but THANKS!!!! :D :D

Was just told by my therapist last week that turning shouldn't hurt my arm, the tendon & muscle should stay attached since I wouldn't be doing any heavy lifting. Was getting a high starting to turn again and THIS shows up at my door. :D
Hoping to put the steady in use trying hollowforms soon.

Hey folks,
Regardless of what the vast majority of the people in the world say about you, you folks on The Creek are INCREDIBLE!! :) Adjectives like sensitive, generous and thoughtful don't even come CLOSE to describing your stature as REALLY decent human beings!! :D

I consider it a privilege to be allowed to participate in this Forum where our ever-vigilant Moderators only delete 97% of my posts due to their own strict interpretations of "decency"! ;) :)

As some of you may know, I'm not big on compliments! :( In fact, I feel this horrible gurgling in my stomach - it's getting WORSE! OH NO! Not on the keyboard AGAIN! :o

Whatever, you're a great family! :)

Nice catch there Joe... I think this would go towards "How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb."

Is that a roll your own steady rest or store bought? The finish on it it looks great. It shows a lot of effort was put into it. Excellent job! I've got to find me one of these.
