Just got back from the ER.

Minmax 2
Rob 0

Cutting a piece of olive and it decided to grab and spin taking my hand with it.

TOTALLY my fault for taking short cuts and not using a sled and also I couldnt be bothered to change the blade. BIG MISTAKE......

Oh well, thank God it was only a break and not a loss.

Moving on................(SIGH)

'Glad you're OK, Rob, and still have all ten as well as your entire hand. Band saws can be hungry when flesh and bone is involved.

And you already seem to understand that for "all the next times", you'll not cut round things that can spin around without proper support and containment!! ;) Those fingers are pretty important...including for "communication" in nasty traffic...or to fellow woodworkers who talk too much... :)

Hi Rob, sorry to read of your accident, at least there was no blood involved. Whenever I’m cutting anything round on the bandsaw, whether it’s wood or metal, I always put a bar clamp on it. Years ago I was cutting a piece of 10” aluminum bar stock on a big old Do-All BS when all of a sudden it caught pulling both of my hands forward. Luckily they weren’t near the blade but is scared the crap out of me! I’ve used the bar clamp method and haven’t had any repeats.

Well, I call my injury the other day: Maple hard, finger soft (http://deirdre.net/posts/2006/05/maple-hard-finger-soft/).

Sliced it open with a carving knife while working on a shaker oval box. Five stitches (no power tools to blame it on).
