I've been reading Matt Meiser's thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=36501)with great interest. However, it's low cost focus got me to thinking about the other end of the pricing spectrum. And that in turn caused me to dig up this old thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=26226)by Kent Cori which did.

Kent's thread is worth a read regardless of your intended price point for a new machine. It contains many clear and lucid points; and does indeed have a happy ending.

Since this thread has no purpose other than to stimulate thought, feel free to take it wherever it needs to go.

There is one person their who has it right

Only two reasons not to buy the 3520B:
1. There is no way you can afford it.
2. You can afford the Oneway, Stubby, Poolewood or other high end lathe.

Unfortunately most of us are in the can't afford it category especially when we are starting out.
