This is actually made of seven seperate peices and it does work. The inside as well as the outside has several coats of polyurethane. For size reference it is 29.5 inches tall and the largest plate is 12 inches in dia..
The ring on the top is a bronze hinged bull nose ring. The wood is Orange Agate Leguminosae (Fabaceae) –Platymiscium pleiostachyum Donn.Sm
until recently only thought to grow in Central America and has been put on the endangered species list there. Then we found it here in the Amazon about two years ago and have verified that it has quite a wide range in fact we dont know how big is the range yet.

Jim, you said that it works, was wondering if the alcohol in the wine
has any adverse effects on the poly finish?

I like the wood and what you are able to do with it, Jim. Did you use poly on the inside where the wine is held?

Mike and Glen:

The wine has had no effect on the inside so far and I dont think it will as we have made a lot of wine glasses that have been very well used and no effect. Same with beer glasses. This poly floor finish is hard as nails.

Hi Jim,

Great Piece! Is it oil or water based poly?

Chuck: It is a three part poly, two resins and thinner.

Love it! Hope the poly has no effect on the wine either. My son was just a few hours West of you last week. Should have told him to bring me some of that wood. Oh well, the customs agents probably would have taken it from him.
