Well not really my first, the first one I did cracked and I threw it away. Thought I'd try posting a pic to see if I can do it.
It's about 9" x 7 high, spalted maple from a tree that died a block away from me.

Great first effort! I'm still having problems just getting something
semi round! Much less a hollow form.....

Thanks for the kudos, all! I have been turning about 2 years as a break to my regular "flat work". The lathe is a hungry beast which seems to eat up all my spare time, not to mention spare cash!

...and now I know I can post pics :p

Very nice, Parker. Tell us (or at least me;) ) about your technique. What type of hollowing tools do you have? I've been bitten by the turning bug as well and am trying to accumulate tools. I've had a basic set and just ordered a 1/2" crown bowl gouge, 3/4" round edge scraper, a wolverine jig, and the vari-grind attachment. I'd like to try some vessel turning but don't know where to start.

Really pretty. Nice figure from the spalting without overpowering the shape of the piece. Keep up the good work.
