Does anybody know of a source for the hardware to make a rolling library ladder? One like this -- http://www.rockler.com/gallery.cfm?Offerings_ID=2237&TabSelect=Details --- but just the hardware?

Try this: http://www.spiralstairsofamerica.com/library.php

They have some stuff on that popular auction site, too.

Thanks, Dave. I'd looked at that site, but didn't find the link to the ebay storefront.

I'm surprised by the prices. For a few wheels and brackets, they want $535 in brass plate, and the pipe they use for track costs $30/ft -- plus freight. I'd spend nearly $1000 before I buy wood!

I guess I should change my question to whether anybody knows of a source for reasonably-priced library ladder hardware. :o

Back in the old days on Badger Pond. There was a sililar discussion on library ladders. I think the conclusion was that because of the propensity of people to sue over ladder accidents, the hardware companies quit selling just the hardware as they couldn't control the design and construction of the ladder. If folks got hurt on a ladder using their hardware, they felt at risk since their pockets were deeper than that of the home/semi pro wood working shop that actually made the ladder.

You might be able to search the BP archives and find the thread.

Try Outwater Hardware (http://www.outwaterhardware.com/index.asp). I know they carry it, don't know about selling seperately.
