I'm thinking about this for my son's birthday. He's not a woodworker and it would be for use around the house. With 10% off and my coupon it comes to only $64...such a deal!

Looks like a winner. My 14 volt Bosch is a power house, all the drill I need. I can't imagine the Makita is any less of a drill, and you get a flashlight!!

Cheers,

Kent

I agree, looks like a deal to me. Makita still makes nice cordless drills.

I have an old 12 v Makita drill with the old stick batteries. It has to be
at least 10 years old. Have worn out 5 batteries I know of. Found it was
cheaper to buy a new drill on sale than to buy 2 new batteries. So that's
what I did. Only I bought 2. Never had the old one fixed at all. The charger still works. I bought a new bosch in a set, all 24 volts, had to
replace the motor once, dropped it once and broke it, repair bills were
close to 100$ each time. Does not even compare to the Makita. Jim

I'd probably get one of the newer types - 6270 (12 V) or 6280 (14.4 V). The advantages of these drills are:
- better batteries (2 Ah instead of 1.3 AH)
- much more compact
- maybe a better charger (I'm not sure on this one).
Ok, they are slightly more expensive but that wouldn't bother me.

A good deal on a good drill, but I would see if the drill came with a 1/2in chuck. That will greatly improve the ability to use bigger bits and other attachments on the drill. If they don't come available with a 1/2in chuck, you can buy one fairly cheap and put it on yourself.

On a side note, if you have access to Sams Club, they have a Kawasaki 19.2v cordless drill w/2 batteries and 13 drill bits for $41.88. I have never personally used this drill or any other from Kawasaki, but I've heard they were good drills. At the very least, you can always return things back to Sam's Club with no problems. Just an another option that's all.
