I had this little piece of redwood burl that I had been saving until I could figure out what to do with it. So I decided to make a little pill box. A pill box is supposed to be used for storing pills:rolleyes: in your purse or pocket so the lid has to fit securely yet still be removable. Ideally the lid should be threaded on but I am light years from threading boxes.

This sure did turn out to be a pretty piece of wood. I love the color and the figure. What was interesting is that the burl eyes continue all the way through the wood as evidenced by the pattern on the lid of the box where I ended up splitting the eyes.

This box is light as a feather and is 1 1/2" tall and 2 1/2" in diameter. I included pictures from both "sides" so you could see the burl eyes on the opposite side.

I sure like that Redwood Burl Mike!!! You did a great job with it. I know what you mean about the weight....Redwood doesn't weigh anything as far as I can tell. :)

Michael,
That box is wonderful.

You obviously revere wood, and it yields willingly to your tools.

Frank, I do revere wood, I love to work as many different woods as I can. Now to say that it yields willingly is a bit of an overstatement. Most of the time it fights me all the way through the finishing process...:p :D

Thank you for the nice compliments. I do appreciate them.
