I was given a piece of birdseye maple with powder post beetle holes in it from Creeker Paul Downes at out last woodworkers meeting. He had gotten it from Michigan's Upper Peninsula and was planing on making a gunstock till the bugs took up residence. He then cut it up in bowl blanks and gave me one.

I turned this with a face plate and was going to cut off the bottom portion about the time my wife came out to see how I was doing. She thought it would look nice with a saucer or plate under the bowl. I used the parting tool to make it look like the base of the bowl is sitting on the saucer.

She was very excited that this is one that is used with dry wood and she can use it immediately....happy wife, happy life. :D

Steve outstanding!!! That's some beautiful wood. How much did you have to pay the bugs to ruin it for a gun stock??

That wood is so amazing!! The bowl is nice as well, and you did a great job sanding it to bring out the ___(what's that effect called?). OH MY, I need to find some of that, I bet it's expensive though, I bet it makes nice pens. I can't get over that wood
