Saw an episode of This Old House today and someone was showing end grain blocks used to make larger "boards" if you will. I've got some 16/4 walnut slabs that would make some good looking small table tops using this method.

Has anyone used this method and what considerations were taken for wood movement? I'm assuming thickness would be a factor - thinner = less movement.

The slabs I have are 20 - 24" wide - should they be cut less wide to minimize movement?

Placement - should they all be oriented the same way? I'm guessing interlocking them in any fashion would lend itself to popping if there's movement.

The slabs are air dried 5 years.
