I can get what appears to be an excellent deal($50) on a blower that I would like to use for an air filtration / ventilation system in my shop. I am by no means an expert on such things so I thought I would ask here.

Below are the specs for it. I have 220 in my shop so that's not a problem. Is there anything else I should be aware of or look for?

5C198 Blower 12 5/8 in 230 v

Furnace Blower
Wheel Diameter 12 5/8 Inches
Voltage Rating 230 Volts
Current Rating 7.5 Amps
Speed 1075
Type PSC
Number of Speeds 3
Motor Power Rating 1
Capacitor Size 30 uF
Air Flow @ 0.300 Inch Static Pressure 2370/1940 CFM
Air Flow @ 0.400 Inch Static Pressure 2360/1910 CFM
Air Flow @ 0.500 Inch Static Pressure 2310/1855 CFM
Air Flow @ 0.900 Inch Static Pressure 1555 CFM

Thanks,
Craig

Could you explain what you mean by a filtration / ventilation system?

I am talking about something like you see in this post. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=35171&highlight=filter

I have a dust collector, but would like to cut down on more of the fine dust that I seem to always be fighting.

I see I didn't mention that the fan is a Dayton brand. It was purchased as a replacement a few years ago and never got used. The guy basicly just wants to get rid of it.

Thanks,
Craig

Craig..that sounds just about right..the only thing is do you have the headroom in your shop to moun tit on the cieling or are you planning to install it somewhere other than the cieling?..The 12 inch or so diameter will give it an rather large overall size...when finalised..

I have a few pics of a couple of units I made...

I installed a low voltage magnetic switch..contolling both motors separatley..and depending on dust conditions...either one or two motors will be turned on.

Hi Craig,

That blower you're looking at, moves some serious air. Maybe too much for your application. 2000 CFM will exchange all of the air in a 12'w x 20'l x 8'h shop, in just under one minute. Over 60 times per hour.

I agree with that.
I think the blower is too big also.

I think for the money it would be a great blower motor ...but as the others have said it might be more than needed.

I got mine for FREE from a local HVAC shop who said I could take multiple units if I liked as they would have another 5-6 of them to send to scrap-metal the next week as well. Depending on the season and the generousity of your local shops you might be able to score free salvage units in your neck of the woods also.

...having said all that ...for $50 that looks like a fine unit and I certainly don't think it would be "too" much motor. If you don't have time for the salvage work, I think that one sounds mighty fine!

Thanks for all of the answers.

I was thinking that it might be overkill myself. I will keep my eyes open and see what else I can find.
