Hello,
I am in the process of building a secretary. I just started.
Looking in the future, it will require a chair.
I belive a hepplewhite chair will be a nice companion for this kind
of secretary as it is shown in a picture of reference a).
Also a corner chair is a good option.
I have found a plan for the hepplewhite chair in a Gottshall book (ref b)
and in reference c there is a plan for a corner chair (or roundabout chair).
Nice pictures of similar chairs are found in:
1) http://www.metmuseum.org/Works_of_Art/viewOnezoom.asp?dep=1&zoomFlag=1&viewmode=0&item=62%2E16
2) http://www.sapfm.org/sapfmmay2003/gallery/viewpiece.asp?id=208
Does somebody has additional information or advice for building
one of these chairs?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks in advance

Saludos cordiales
Alfredo

I prefer the corner chair to use with a Secretary. I have not made a secretary, but I did make a corner chair using the Vandal plan as a guide. As usual, I never make anything by a plan. Just use them to help work out the dimensions, joinery, etc. Here is a picture of the one I made.

Included a ball & claw foot, rear legs are turned off center, and curved the front rails.

Alfredo, that looks like a fun and challenging project. I don't have the skills or experience for such exquisite work, but the one thing I can say is "prototype", and more than once if necessary.

¡Saludos!

Alfredo:
I delivered the secretary/desk I've been working on this weekend. A number of chairs were tried with it, but nothing fit. There was more than one hint dropped that a chair might be necessary. So I am intrested in the answers you get here. see http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=35866 for the style of my sec/desk.

I'd like to see a picture of yours, but don't have that issue of Home Furniture. Do you have a picture you could post?

I do have two of the books you quote and will get them out. I may have to reconsider the use of the word "final" in my above post.

The secretary that I started recently it is a Townsend-Goddard

I saw your website and you build beautiful furniture.

Please post pictures of your progress. Looks like a great project with lots of pleasant hours of joinery, carving, fitting and finishing. Hope to one day try one of these, but too many other demands from kids and wife right now. Keep us posted.
