Here's a new cherry bowl with a little texture. The new texturing tool is a lot of fun. I'll post a few pics in this thread this evening.

Raymond that texture treatment really sets of a bowl that would be beautiful all by itself.

That's a beautiful bowl. I'd be interested in seeing the tool you used and the supplier.

Raymond,
The bowl is great, the texturing is interesting, and the thin dark lines bordering the textured area are terrific!

How did you do those lines, anyhow???

Raymond,
The texturing is a great detail. When I got mine I textured just about everything. LOML didn't sit still for a week:D.

Wait till you try it on end grain, really works well. Just like chattering.

Keep 'em coming.

That's really a great texturning job. How'd you get it criss crossed? Reverse?

Here's a pic of the tool I'm using. I didn't go all out and but $170 worth of texturing. I just bought one of the gears with bearing in the center and made my own handle for it ($30)

For those of you not familiar with the tool, if you hold it perpendicular to the lathe bed you get evenly spaced lines around the workpiece. By holding the cutter at an angle to the right or left you get fairly even spiral type cuts around the piece. I'm sure there are other things you can do with it too depending on presentation of the tool but I've just started experimenting with it.

So far I've done a small plate, knurled two tool handles, and two small bowls with it and I just made the handle for the cutter last night. You might be right Blake. The dog may be next.

Raymond,
Nice use of that texturing tool!

I am still curious however as to how you created the dark bordering lines along the edges of the textured area.

Frank, I just used some wire to burnish some lines I put in the bowl with my parting tool. I've found that it's easier to gauge where you want your textured pattern if you outline it first.
