I need to erect some walls in the new teaching studio. The walls will be 2 1/2" steel studs, 20 gage, with 5/8" DW on both sides. There are about 120 running feet of wall. Half is nearly 9 feet tall, and half is a little over 10 feet tall. Does anyone know the going rate for such work, either on a square foot or running foot basis, either with or without materials? Half needs to be a fire rated wall, the other half does not. I got a bid for the labor (no materials) for framing, rocking, and taping for about $7000 and this seemed high, but perhaps not. I know the materials will be spendy, what with the price of steel going up so sharply. This is non-union work.

So, I know that the materials will cost what they cost. What I am interested in learning is whether the labor bid that I got is in the range it should be.

I build furniture, not buildings, so my experience is pretty limited on this stuff.

Thanks for any hlep.

Call Kamco for guidance...I believe they are the largest local supplier of such things.
