Hello,

I was hoping somebody could help me with a question, perhaps Steve S. or somebody. If a table already has a danish oil finish can a resin varnish be applied over it such as Behlen's. I know the bare wood would be optimal but would it work with a roughening of the surface with 220 grit? If not what regiment should be followed if any?

Thank you.

Sure, it will work fine over a cured "danish oil" finish, which I assume is an oil/varnish mix like Watco. All varnishes need a bit of tooth to adhere since they bond mechanically not chemically, so sanding with 220 is fine. Between coats of varnish 320 grit is about ideal.

Steve,

Yes it is the Deft danish oil. What is the appropriate cure time for this type of product? I know for the resin varnish you had said to wait a month to cure before rubbing out.

Thanks.
