Another gorgeous piece from the box Bill Grumbine sent me...I think it's some kind of maple, but I've never seen anything like it before.
(If this is any indication, BG has better wood in his "scrap box" than I can buy out here.)

About 3-1/4" tall, not counting the insert.

I've seen that kind of maple before. I think it was some I got on ebay that was described as curly maple. I really like those. I think they would sell well. Where did you get the inserts? I've never seen any like that.

Where did you get the inserts? I've never seen any like that.$2 each at Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15573&catalogId=10103&storeId=12&productId=53118&langId=-1&parentCats=15573*15699*15701
They've got a very similar one in glass for 50 cents.

That's definitely some curly stock you got there. Very nice Lee!

Very nice, Lee. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open for some similar candle inserts. Seems like a good learning project for my rusty skills, and it'd fit my little lathe.

Great idea and execution Lee. I imagine BG's scraps are like leftovers at a 5 star restaurant! You did them proud.....

Lee, you have a very good eye for form. It's great how the upper part of the curve matches the curve of the candle. Good flow. Nice wood too! Cool piece.:)

VERY nice, you now have me looking at my own scrap pile wondering what I'm tossing out, that I should keep

Did you glue the candle holders in place?

Cheers!

Did you glue the candle holders in place?Just a tiny dab of hot-melt, but those inserts are heavy enough that they really don't need it.
