After having asked for advice on SMC, decided I should report on my
progress. Read everything I could find on swingmills, and looked at all the
videos, decided the best for me would be a bandmill. So I read everything
I could find on bandmills and ordered a mill from Cook's Saw Mfg LLC of
Alabama. The important things to me are wheels within .003", and a very
good blade and sharpening service. They say that Cook mills cut straight.
Am very tired of wavy boards. So I went with Cooks.
The downside is it is 1100 miles to go pick it up when it is ready. Jim

Those things are pretty pricey. Have you considered a circular saw mill. You'll have a better shot of getting straigher cuts and surely less wavyness. The circular saw mill may offer you an option to produce the higher grade cuts like rift and quarter if that's a consideration.

That is a long way to go for a tool but hopefully you get more than enough use out of it to make the trip worthwhile. I'd sure like to have one of those but I'm thinking I'll wait till I'm back in a place where trees grow naturally.
