Here is a box I turned a while back but I had to keep it under wraps until I could deliver it to someone as a gift.

Out of big leaf maple, this box is 2 1/2" in diameter and 2 5/8" tall. I was expecting more curl in this piece of wood but you get what you get. I decided to try and disguise the join on this one with some burning with a wire.

Big Mike that is a really nice box. I like the form on it. Great gift. One thing about giving these boxes as gifts it beat shopping at Wal-Mart for hours trying to find something and it means more. Beautiful job Mike.

Well, you certainly accomplished that. Really nice Big Mike.

Thanks for the kind words. I do appreciate them.

Dennis, this is not a video, it is a draft for an article with pictures. Basically a step by step in pictures accompanied by word explanations.

I don't have an way to make them new fangled moving picture shows....:p :o

Very nice Mike, that looks great. So is this article going to be published soon or are you submitting it to a mag or website?

Michael, Sir,
Or Big Mike if you prefer,
Knowing that masculine and feminine qualities have been variously assigned by a myriad of cultures to the sharp edge and the curve over these most recent 40,000 yrs at least, I will not attempt to assign m/f values to the parts of your lidded vessel.

However, I do say that this duality is wonderfully in union here.

On the lid, the gentle uprising curvature to the mount of the sharp edged lid is an especially powerful theme that I encourage you to develop and pursue!!!

The lovely inviting receptacle of the base flows so sweetly to the lid thru the grain of the wood.

The horizontal lines separating both elements allow each part of the box to both retain identity and come together.

Thank you for sharing this work.

If my Art Critic to Klingon to English universal translator is working correctly I believe Frank just said, "Cool!"

Precisely the word I was looking for Andy, thanks!!!

No one has ever accused me of putting the lessons of Wm. Strunk Jr. into practice, so why start now?
