I'm looking for a source for a 1-1/4" Forstner bit with at least a 6" shank.
I have a set but the shanks are only about 2" -3". I've found a bunch of places that sell Forstners but not long enough.....
Thanks

Try doing a google search with 'forstner bit extender' or something similar. I can't recall where I've seen them, but someone makes a shaft extender. Dont have any idea how well they work, but they're out there.

I have one of those forstner bit extenders and it worked quite well when I needed it. I think I got it at an independant hardware store (pretty sure it was Mcguckins in Boulder, CO). I was worried that it might wobble and drift, but I had no problems with it at all. I'm also pretty sure the one I have is a "General" brand.

Rich,

a Germany company - FAMAG (http://www.famag.com/en/Default.htm)- specialized in drill and router bits of high quality offers quality extenders up to 14 inches. In Germany one can mail order these parts at Fine Tools (http://www.fine-tools.com/), Berlin.

The problem with some low quality extenders is that they do not hold the forstner bit centrically enough so that the bit doesn´t turn balanced.
