Well, I finally went and bought a new lathe - the Rikon midi. That's a lot of lathe! A few minor glitches/rough edges, but overall I am pleased with the quality.

I currently have a Nova Precision Midi that is fixed for a 3/4 x 16 TPI spindle, and the new lathe has a 1 x 8 TPI spindle. Any recommendations for a spindle adaptor, or should I just try to sell and get a new chuck?

Thanks for any advice,

JohnM

I dont have my catalog handy but those sizes sound fairly common to me. Look at the PSI spindle adaptors and i think you will find what you need. Probably any place else but thats where I think i saw them when I was looking.

You can get a spindle adapter, but a decent one is not inexpensive. And using it reduces your lathe's capacity. This might be a good time to consider upgrading to a chuck that takes adapters for "future flexibility" and selling the older chuck to someone who needs the more unusual 3/4" x 16 threading.

Thanks for the responses. Ken, my username request is in, and should be updated soon. As for the chuck, the kind folks at Woodcraft allowed me to exchange my 3/4 x 16 model in for the 1 x 8 model!

Now off to turn. Have a few Rikon questions, but I'll wait for the username update.
