After my previous disaster, with the bowl coming out of the chuck, and shattering, I've managed to finish another cherry bowl. This time I listened to the sage advice from all you creekers, and used the tailstock as much as possible when I turned the bottom.
It's sanded to 400, and finished with Watco oil, asper Bill Grumbine.
Thanks Bill, for producing a great Video. If any of you other "rookies" haven't got Bill's video yet. Get it. it's great. I learned a lot watching it.
Oh, here's photo's for the "PP".

Nice job, Jim. Like the curl in the bowl. Adds to the looks without overpowering the whole piece. Good finish too.

I really love the Rikon. I'm just a "rookie" at turning. But it has done everything I've asked it to do. Seems to have more than enough power for its size. If I had to buy it again, I wouldn't hesitate.

Great looking bowl. Question

Jim,

Great looking bowl. Question

Jim
I didn't use a face plate, I used a Talon chuck, with a cut tenon. Jumbo jaws on the talon to finish the bottom.
