Well my good friend George Conklin sent me a 5 1/2" by 6" piece of mesquite log. I have alway wanted to turn some and George was kind enough to send a small piece. Well George here ya go. I got two small bowls out of it. Both are finished with lacquer. The small one is 4" across and 1 1/2" deep. The larger one was pretty knotty but it is 4 1/2" across and 2 1/4" deep. It was a ball turning them. It was green so turned it right to size and finished. We will see how stable it is. Thank you George. I definately appreciate it.

I would guess this is what is referred to as "Honey Mesquite". I cannot say for sure but those are some "sweet" bowls. Gotta love wood from friends. It always has pretty stuff inside....:D

Bernie,

Excellent job. Your skill level has gone thru the roof in such a short time. Wouldn't have anything to do with that new lathe would it? :D

You did good on that bowl my friend..... REAL GOOD!

Thank you all for the nice comments. George thank you. I definately enjoyed. it. It was some nice turning wood. You can see the second half of that log had 4 knots in it. It sure gave me a challenge but that was half the fun. I did learn a lot. I also turned it to final size and finished so we will see how it does. I hope I did ya proud George.

Nice work, Bernie. The wood surprised me. I've never turned Mesquite, but from what I have seen on here I expected a rich, dark color.

Nice wood and nice bowls!
