This is from some of Jim Ketron's stash of Box Elder he left me a couple weeks ago. I had a little slip with the tool rest and ground some of the bark down, so I peeled the rest off and played with my burning rig.;). 9" diameter with buffed gel poly finish.

Very nice! Using the burning tool on the edge was a great idea, it looks very natural and the dark edge really compliments the light wood.

Nice idea Travis! I had some bark come loose and parts were dark and others were light. Wish I had thought of burning it. Next time for sure. It sure is a pretty piece!!:)

Nice one, Travis. I also agree that the edge treatment brought this one around very nicely!

Really like it. I'd say you were lucky some of the bark came off. Otherwise you would not have ended up with this beautiful treatment on the edge. Great job all around on a pretty piece of wood.

Travis, that's beautiful work as always. I really like the edge treatment.

I also appreciate knowing that even your bowls don't always end up as originally intended. Makes me feel a little more worthy.

Yep, yet another nice one! :D

So this is actually a MMNE bowl....right ;) ?

Do you burn it, then seal it with the rest of the bowl, I cannot imagine finishing it, then burning through the finish, might get kinda stinky.

Sand it, burn it, then finish it?

Cheers!

Thanks everyone. Stu, it flames up enough with just the wood. So yes- sand, burn then finish.;)

Looks like that burning tool came in real handy on another one Travis. A mighty handsome bowl.
