Just in case you had not seen, the Freud FT2000E is on sale for $110.

I had intended to hold off until I could decide on the Festool or Bosch routers but this deal looked too good to pass up. I hope the dust collection works as well as the Dewalt 621 for free hand plunge routing.

thanks,

Al

I own a Freud FT2000e and it is a good router for table use, perhaps not the absolute best choice, but good nonetheless. When I bought mine, it was packaged with a 1/2 inch collet and a 1/4 inch adapter. I found the adapter hard to use for 1/4 inch bits and bought a 1/4 inch collet. It was not cheap - around $45 as I recall. Many of the other routers in this class come equipped with both a 1/4 and 1/2 inch collet. Be aware.

Also, it is my understanding that the FT2000e router is being replaced in the Freud line with a newer model, which is probably why you see fire sale pricing.

All currently shipping Freud routers include both the 1/2" and 1/4" collets. The FT2000 is being replaced by the FT2200. They are essentially the same tool but the new ones have an updated look.

The ones I see are refurbished used machines.

That's good news Charles. I need to use the 1/4" with the Jasper circle jig.

Amazon sold out very quickly. I hope they come through with the order.

Charles, when are we going to get a peek at the FT2200?

When I got my 2000 a couple of years ago it came with BOTH 1/2" and 1/4" collets.

According to Charles' post and your experience, Mark, Freud has changed the packaging of the FT2000e router since I bought mine several years ago. That change is good, since the Freud router used to appear as a better price deal than it really was, because it was lacking the 1/4 inch collet until they changed their packaging. Good for Freud!

Guys,
It looks like the refurbs are $119 and the new ones are $189.

Am I missing something?

Al:

I have had the Freud for about 6 years, and use it in my router table. It was my very first router. My only complaint is that when lock the plunge lever, the height of the bit changes slightly, which is a bit annoying. Other than that, it's been problem-free.

(Charles - Any ideas on a fix or workaround for this would be greatly appreciated!)

Well, I just got confirmation from Amazon that I'll get an additional $25 off by ordering the Jasper jig and a Freud router bit, part of a special promotion. The estimated shipping date is a month off for the router. But I can be patient.
