I know we are supposed to include pix with our gloats, but unfortunately my camera was wrecked in the recent move.

Anyway, as Ned and I have had to part company (shopwise anyway) I was in need of some tools to fill the voids he left upon his departure. After careful consideration of my tool budget and alot of research here and elsewhere, I finally acquired not 1, but 2 loads of tools to shoehorn fit into my 375 sf shop. Mind you, we had over 1k sf to fool with before this!

First addition was a familier one...a Ridgid TS 3650. Ned has its' older brother in the 3612, which I became very comfortable with. It is a nice, mid-priced saw with cast iron wings and mobile base included. Fence is very good for the price, and the 3650 even has a dust shroud around the blade that works fairly well.

Second is a Ridgid JP0610 6"jointer. Quite a pleasent upgrand from the old Craftsman. Solid, decent fence, and get this...a new one for me...an adjustable outfeed table and dust chute! No more shovelling shavings off the floor! Yee Haa!!

Third is a Ridgid TP1300 13" planer. Great price, nice fit and finish, extra blades and stand...and again, dust collection!

Fourth is the venerable HFDC, what a bear. This one speaks for itself.

Fifth is a Bosch RA1171 router table. Nicely made, aluminum plate, dust collection and a rather decent fence.

Sixth is another Delta 16" VS scroll saw. I had one of these for well over 10 yrs, but the bushings just wore out from use. For the $, it just made sense to replace it instead of going through the hoops to rebuild it. An upgrade to nice yellow SS would have been even nicer though!

My trip to HD for all the Ridgid stuff was cool in that I had a 20% off coupon I got on eBay to soften the hit to my tool fund. I saved over $250 with that in hand. Then Lowes also honored a copy of that coupon for a #100 savings there, and HF also had a 20% couipon on the DC. http://www.woodworking.org/InfoExchange/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif

All in all, I've really brightened up the place with all the orange, green and shiney new iron.

Sorry it's a long read, but when I gloat, I gloat!!

Now, off to make some sawdust!! http://www.woodworking.org/InfoExchange/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif

John

PS: Ya happy now, Ned!!??:p

Nice semi-gloat, John. (It's not a full gloat until there are pics involved, but the picture police might give you time off for good behavior.) I think you'll be very happy with the TS3650. Although I've added a fair amount to mine now, even in the stock configuration, it's a great saw and sold at a very reasonable price considering all the features included.

They're the lastest models from Ridgid with electronic, artificial intelligence systems, based on fuzzy logic. It's all the rage in cutting edge safety. The tool will actually verbalize warnings such as, "Are you sure you're comfortable with your hand placement?", and "Hey bozo! How many times do I have to say it?...push stick! push stick! push stick!", and in the upgraded models, "Wipe yourself down! She'll kill you if you track that much sawdust into the house.", and "Don't hide that new _(Insert tool here)_ under me! I'm not taking the blame!"

Congrats on your new tools! That's a heck of a gloat!

The 3650 is going to be hollering big time at me! "Please reinstall Blade guard!" It's a good thing they don't have a lockout if the guard isn't on, I'd never get to use it.

I know, I know, it should be on. I do alot of thin ripping, the guard is such a pain. I did, however, "acquire" a couple of push sticks from Ned. He knows I use 'em too.

Thanks for the pix, Ned!

They now call me "Hollywoodsmith"

I think those are computer generated pictures and therefore not real, so you better gloat on a new camera soon and take super clear pictures.

When we built our shop 4 years ago. I bought the Ridgid tools. When I did this I did not know about the Creek. I was on my own then. And for the most part I am very happy with the tool purchase. I think they are about the best overall value for the dollar. You can spend more and get more of course. But we were equiping an entire shop the Ridgid tools fit our budget. Some people have spend more on one tool than I did on all my Ridgid tools. I wish my Ridgid band saw had more power but I would have to pay more and get a bigger one. For a 14" it does ok. The only Ridgid tool I would not buy again is the lathe. It is just an odd ball design. Works fine for my needs right now. But in retrospect, I would not have purchased the lathe

I have the tablesaw, bandsaw, drill press, jointer, thickness planer, all have served me well.

built a router table into the open end and firmed up the legs. It works great. Having the herculift is awesome for a garage shop.

I also have the Ridgid Planer - but I lost my dust hood when I moved 2 years ago.... I guess I just need the jointer now hmmm

Aw Shucks, Ned, you just need to spray a little water to get those "Fuzzies" on the pics to stand up good and then sand them down with 320 grit and wipe on a little clearcote, 'n they will be OK.:D
